Supplemental Auditions!
The Emerald Jazz dance team will be hosting auditions year round to include a Fall Audition.
Fall Dates: TBA (September 2010)
Location: McLin #4
Time: 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM
Attire: Black Shorts or Capri Dance Pants, Dance Top (preferably White or Black), Dance Shoes, Hair pulled back (dancer bun) & Natural Make up
If you would like to be a member of the Emerald Jazz dance team, complete the online registration form and the Spirit Coordinator will confirm an audition day and time.
Special Tip: If you are interested in auditioning for the team, please be sure that you are proficient in the required skills listed under the audition requirements section. As a suggestion, you may want to seek out a local dance studio to work on your technical skills and dance technique several months before auditions.
In order to be considered as an audition candidate, you must complete steps 1-3 at least one week before the audition date. Get your paperwork in early!!
1. You must be a registered student of the university. Note: If you are transferring from another university, you must be accepted to the university by your dance audition or cheer –mascot tryout date.
2. Complete the online application. Click on the link provided and please complete the comment section. Application link: http://www.wsuspiritunit.com/unitapp.html
3. Complete the physical packet in its entirety. The completed packet must include a front/back copy of your insurance card and shot records with dates. You will also need to complete the insurance forms and the release forms. Please send the information via fax to the Tiandra Finch, Trainer at 937.775.2368. Feel free to email her with questions at finch.18@wright.edu. You may also hand deliver your forms to the trainer; the mailbox is located on the third floor of the Nutter Center. (Room 356)
Additional Physical Packet Information:
☐ If you have a current physical from another sport, you may provide a copy of the physical versus paying for another physical.
☐ If you are a current WSU student and don’t have insurance, you may obtain insurance by emailing Joyce Smith at
joyce.smith@wright.edu. Student insurance is very affordable.

Audition Requirements--New!!!
Technical Skills
☐ Turns – Double Pirouette, Fouettes REQUIRED
☐ Triple Pirouette and Fouettes in Second a PLUS!
Turn Combination (taught at auditions)
☐ Leaps – Toe Touch, Switch Leap, Barrel (turning “c”) REQUIRED
☐ Switch Open and Chaine’ Open a PLUS!
Leap Combination (taught at auditions)
☐ Flexibility – Splits on both legs and center splits, Heel Stretch Hold on BEST leg
Motion Technique – Fight-song or Sideline (taught on final audition day)
Dance Technique – Selected dance segments (taught at auditions)
OWN Choreography – No longer needed for auditions!!
Personal Interview – 15-20 minute interview conducted by the Athletic Department Administration and Alumni
Audition Attire

☐ Hair in a “dancer bun”
☐ Natural make-up
☐ Everyone – NO jewelry to include piercing of any kind!
Position Qualification Requirements:
Education and Dance Experience
☐ Graduating Senior, Current WSU or transfer student
☐ 2.2 cumulative GPA
☐ Prior High School, Studio or All Star dance experience (to include technical skills)
☐ 1-2 years of competition experience a plus

Special Note: Being a part of this program is a major commitment of your non academic time. If you need to work a job of more than 20 hours per week, strongly consider whether you can MULTI-TASK and PRIORITIZE. After academics, this program must come next on your list of priorities! NO EXCEPTIONS!!
